13 years of school, a long learning marathon and the stress of the exams are behind you. After the awarding of your certificate and the Abi-Ball, an important stage of your life is over and a new exciting chapter in your life awaits you. Now you are probably faced with the decision of how to continue after your Abi:
Should you study directly or do an apprenticeship? Or would you rather take a short break?
Here you get a first overview:
If you already know exactly where you want to go in your future career, you can jump straight into your Studies.
You can apply either directly to the universities or, for some courses of study such as medicine, centrally to the Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung. However, many degree programmes are restricted in admission. You should also make sure you meet the application deadline. For the winter semester, this usually ends on 15 July.
Maybe you are not yet sure if and what you want to study.
Then the Gap Year is the ideal solution for you.
Gap Year means time-out: Here you take a year off to get to know new cultures, people, languages and perhaps yourself.
One possibility is Work & Travel: Here you travel with your backpack through distant countries. In order to finance your travel, you work in different places, e.g. in agriculture or gastronomy.
If you want to be socially involved, the Voluntary Social Year is perfect, which you can spend either at home or abroad.
Do you like children? Then maybe Au-pair is the right thing for you. You take care of the children of your host family abroad and improve your language skills at the same time.
Speaking of language skills: Have you ever thought about a language trip and a language course? It doesn't always have to be English. Other languages like Chinese, Spanish or Russian are becoming more and more important.
